hello from leicestershire
« on: July 03, 2012, 19:40 »
Hi All,
Just been to have a look as some plots and would like some general advice on the best way to start up a plot.  Should   I clear all the weeds ( or trifids in these cases as some are 5 ft+) first, or do I do a small area and get that working before moving down the plot.  I have not measured them but they look about 8-10ft by 30ft+. Any advice would be great. Thanks

covering an area with cardboard can work well while you are working on the rest.

Hi from me (I am located in Leicester so probably not too far from you). Yes, it is usually best to cover everything and work on a small section at a time, otherwise it can get very disheartening! But there are all kinds of methods for tackling a new plot. The main thing is to enjoy it! Welcome to the site :)

Hi from me I'm in Leics. too. Best to clear a bit & plant a bit at this time of year. Otherwise you won't get to grow anything.

i would cut down what i could , strim it, and then sprayed it all off with a good weed killer , you still have plenty of time to get stuff in and growing,..
