which supplier?

As a new grower i would be interested in knowing which suppliers you use.  I want to order some strawberry/raspberry and currants but there is a vast price range so is it ok to go for the cheapest or do they vary in quality

thoughts please :?:

If you have a pound land near you try there first.  My currents (Red & Black) came from there and at £1 for three bushes they were a bargain.

Apples, Pears and cherry came from Woolies in Jan/Feb at £9.99 each again exceptional value and good quality.

Shop around, but watch for quality - sometimes you pay for what you get.

Regards and happy hunting.

My take on it is that bushes / trees etc are going to be there for a long time so it's well worth selecting varieties that are the best - if you spend 1 pound or 20 you need to put some work in to preparing and care and after 5 years you will have forgotton what you paid but know what the quality is.

With seeds - again I'm  thinking it is worth paying extra for quality.

That's my theory anyway!

www.garden4less.co.uk sell Thompson and Morgan seeds at a discount. And they deliver very quickly.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Thanks for the site noshed, looks very good, have you been happy and successfull with the seeds you've bought from them and do you consider the discounts to be true discounts? Jeff

I grow a lot of seeds from Lidl - 29p per packet.  And then I go to T&M for more exciting seeds.

I don't think you get anything extra for the higher costs- most of the seeds come from the same supplier, whoever sells them.  Why should Tigerella tomato seeds be twice the price from T&M as B&Q own brand?  Or de Nice a fruit rond courgettes 10 times the price from T&M as Lidl.

G4L have been good for me - a limited range but better than B&Q. Incidentally isn't it a bit time B&Q had an end of season sale?
