« on: June 20, 2012, 22:23 »
I am going to be building a walk in run.3 of the sides will be brick wall anyway but im looking for somewhere that i can get run panels along the front. Im not great at diy and the other half well we wont get into that lol  ::)If anyone has any ideas of where i can get some ready built ones would be great. They need to be 6" high. the less the delivery charge aswell the better. Thanks  :)

My OH made some from weldmesh and tile battens.  Easy to make, but if you really aren't very good at DIY, they were selling similar on Ebay for £15.  Don't know if they are still on there though.

Like this.  Don't know about postage though!

I bought some off eBay about a month ago... £16 for 2"x2" treated timber 6ft by 4ft and 1"x1" weldmesh. I know some people prefer 1"x1/2"  mesh, they did those too in 6ft x 3ft panels... Slightly more expensive. Delivery was dependant on post code, mine was £35, very sturdy, company was based in Telford, good service.

1" x 1" won't stop rats getting through, that's why its better to use the 1" x 1/2"

I was surprised how small the holes in a 1" x 1" panel are.. To give u an idea, the gap is the width of my thumb at the knuckle... And I have small hands... I can't see the skull of a rat passing that at all, but I know that 1" by 1/2" is preferred to stop other smaller rodents... I have a cat for those mwuhahaha!

Don't you believe it.  This is an extract from Blackpool.gov!

The most common species in the UK is the Brown or Norway rat, which is physically
strong and has been known to survive two days in open water and can squeeze
through a gap of less than 25mm (“1”).

If you pick up a dead rat, you will see the head itself it quite narrow, the fur makes it look wider!  They are also multijointed.
