My understanding is that savoy cabbages are normally winter cabbages?  I bought one from Trashco's last week that's labelled savoy, also British & 'new season'.  It resembles 'normal' savoys to a degree, but is lighter green, the leaves are more tender, and it has very little flavour.  Is this typical of savoys varieties grown for harvesting at this time of year, or are there better varieties out there?  I shan't bother if they're all like that one!

And while I'm on the subject of savoy cabbages, is it usual for germination rates to be poor?  I've tried 2 batches and only got 25% on the first and 60 % on the second.

I expect there are savoys for harvesting all year round.   I have some on the plot that will soon be ready. They were sown in February and are harvested in June.  These are a light green one

The Samantha that I've sown is an F1 so you'd expect 100% germination.  Is your seed fresh?

I prefer the texture and flavour of the over-wintering savoys. I shall sow soon.
