The art of darning
« on: June 27, 2012, 21:39 »
OH likes mohair socks ::) After a time his wellies wear the heels and he gets big holes at the back. They are quite pricey to buy so my 86year old sister, whos eye sight is not what it was, darns them for him.
I think this is a lovely bit of work. Does anyone else darn. I can do it after a fashion but not like this. ::)

My sister still uses the mushroom that our mum used for darning and she died  60 years ago.

Used to do a bit of darning years ago but we all wear cotton socks now and not worth the effort. Wish my mum hadn't tossed her mushroom years ago because I've gotten back into heavy wool socks for winter and know they'd be cheaper to mend than replace.

Darned Matthes's school socks as I can only buy them from school. 2 pairs left, but only 1 1/2 weeks left, ankle socks next year.
