My chickens have decided they like buttercups, particularly the seedheads.  I understand they are poisonous.  Does anybody know how toxic they are?  My garden is overrun with creeping buttercups, and I don't know how to stop the chucks eating them.  Should I let them carry on and hope they get bored and stop.

My garden has lily of the valley, rhubarb and honeysuckle which are toxic- she doesn't touch them.  I think they know what not to eat ( the chicken course leader said that anyway)...

Remember that some plants are poisonous to different creatures. Birds can eat nightshade berries with no ill effect, if your birds have eaten buttercups regularly with no ill effect i would not worry.
Whether toxins would be found in the eggs is another matter!

Buttercup eating is new. I can't stop them, so I'll have to hope they're ok.  They don't lay anymore, so no worries for me.

My chickens eat the creeping buttercup too - I think they are an irritant to sheep and cattle - but not a big problem for chickens. I wouldn't worry too much. (in fact some suggest chickens and geese are a good way to control creeping buttercup)
