Moving a brooding hen
« on: June 03, 2012, 20:08 »
Poppy is sitting on 11 eggs, 1 broke due to having 2 of Pecky's eggs in there, so will be collecting a rabbit hutch tomorrow.
What is the best way to move Poppy and eggs or should I put Speckles and Pecky there instead?

how I have done it (several times) is to pick up the broody and all the time whilst holding her so she can see what is happening carry a couple of eggs at a time to the new coop. When they are all in place carefully place her on top of them and shut her in for the rest of the day and night. In the morning you can open the coop up so she can get up and get her food etc.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thank you Joyfull, I am collecting a hutch tomorrow, so will be able to transfer her when it is ready. Hopefully some chicks in a few weeks time.
