With ours, Pip just wants to get them to play, so bounces up and down wagging his tail ::) (he does the same with the rabbits and cats) they just give him a look of utter disdain  however he's not that bothered about mother in laws chickens and just poddles about :)

When we had the chickens, we had the two dogs as well. A Terrier mixture and a Border Collie. The Terrier didn't bat an eyelid and would even just carry on lying there if one of the birds specked at his wirey coat, which thisparticular birdused to enjoy doing. The Collie used to try and herd them and she had to be watched constantly for running at them if she thought you weren't looking.

We tend to work on the principle 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and to be honest it's worked.  We keep an eye on things, don't put the hens and dog/cats in a situation or create a situation but I know not all dogs are safe around chickens, guess we've just been lucky :)

Our Staffordshire bull terrier is coming up for 18 months now and up until recently we've kept them apart due to his excitable puppy nature.

These days they mix together no probs. but we don't quite trust him 100% iykwim so supervise their time together. During their first meeting the Orpington really saw him off and put him in his place since then he's been interested in a curious way I think. My husband let him out when our bunny was 'free ranging'  ::) the other day and he merely sniffed his bottom as he lolloped along.
