Ok, apart from a visit to my GP  the onions I planted last autumn are swelling nicely although some have started to produce seed heads which I have cut off (is that right ?)

My question is though, most aren't a nice round bulb with a bit of green stuff sprouting from the top, they are more "pear drop" shaped with the swelling extending into the foliage....does that make sence.
This is only my second year of growing onions & due to early stage senility  I can't remember what they were like last year............are my onions normal..............over to you.

Chris, it sounds like your onions are fine to me..... and yes, if there are seed heads being produced cut them off as soon as you see them... :-)

If they have very thick stems at the neck of the bulb, these are the ones to use first, as they don't dry off so well
