Cockerel Trouble
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:07 »
My flock seem to be coming down with a throat type infection, wheezy and coughing  They are all eating laying Ok  but I asked the vet and he gave me antibiotics to give them. I know I cant eat the eggs from the chickens Ive treated  but if I treat the cockerel can I not eat any eggs?   The cockerel seems off today and hasnt crowed Hes quite a friendly bird but when I picked him up to inspect him I noticed sore patches either side of his neck under the feathers almost like he had been caught in something.  The free range over a small field that is enclosed by pig wire and then at night they are put in th electrically fenced area which is about 40sm.

the eggs should be ok after the withdrawal period (although I would check with a vet just to be sure). If the field is enclosed by wire he could be stretching through or over it to reach a tasty morsel.
Staffies are softer than you think.
