Looking for bird courier
« on: May 16, 2012, 13:54 »
I am looking for a miniature white bearded silkie cockerel, I have placed lots of ads and have had a couple of replies. The problem is all my answeres so far are from way down south  :(, I dont mind traveling (3hours there and 3hours back I am willing to consider) but so far the nicest bird is in Hereford thats a 10 hour round trip.

The bird is just what I am looking for, a true miniature, some of my mini girls are half the size of my bantom silkies, b :ohmy:ut 10 hours. I will wait till after the weekend see if I get anymore answeres but thought I would look into couriers.

Has anybody used one they would recommend or know of one?

sorry never used a courier, I always prefer to drive and collect myself then I can see the place where they are raised and the condition of the birds.
Staffies are softer than you think.

And Joy has travelled all the way to Scotland for birds haven't you Joy?

There are not many poultry transport firms around.  Many of them stopped moving birds a few years back when all the legislation on animal movement changed.  There are a few new comers which charge extortionate prices, but I don't think they'll last.

Whereabouts are you Rileyfin?  If you put your location in your profile, it will help people to help you!

and didn't you once take some very young chicks upto Scotland on the train Annie?

Rileyfin - would the seller agree to meet you half way perhaps?

Hi Rileyfin,
I'm not a courier but have carried my birds for quite long distances without trouble in my car. If it helps I would be happy to pop down to Hereford and meet you somewhere on the road to Scotland if you could pay for the fuel for the round trip. I live in North Wales. My car covers 60 miles to the gallon. Hereford is 100 miles from here; M6 services near Manchester are 140 from Hereford and return would be 50 so (assuming bird is in Hereford itself) then say 5 gallons of fuel. If this is of any help please send PM.
