My aubergines are still in the house but I'm planning to move them to the tunnel at the weekend. I'm just waiting until after Friday because they're forecasting 4 degrees for us overnight on Friday. Last year I didn't bother with them because I've always grown them on a sunny patio in pots and never got a worthwhile crop from them. This year, I'm giving them a try in my new tunnel, planted into the beds, and I'm crossing my fingers that will do the trick. I have to say the Moneymakers I've done have about twice the size and vigour of the Black Beauties. Can't remember what varieties I've tried in the past.

I had good results with Bonica and one called Diamond.  Some folks swear by Barbentane but I've not tried it. The stripey calliope grew well for me last year.  I really like the violet and pink fruiting ones but they are difficult to get much fruit off unless its really warm

The best one for me last year was Violetta and I wouldn't say it went mad or anything but it was the best of the bunch

I've never tried aubergines before but my Baby Anne are well ahead of my Black Beauty & have two small fruits on them (Mum's been 'tickling' them with a paint brush).  :)

That's what I grew last year - they grew quite big in the border soil, but I got no fruit despite tickling with paintbrush and mist spraying :(
I'm trying them again this year............but I'm giving up (again) if they don't fruit ::)  :nowink:

I grow mine in big pots and on hot days they go outside as do the chillies as they do appreciate a bit of sunbathing, as long as its not blustery they're fine

I tried growing them last year and from 16 plants I had ONE fruit. I did everything I could possibly do...... Watering, feeding, warmth, 'tickling' with a brush. I'm gonna give them one more year and them turn the space over to something else.
I grew them in the greenhouse, maybe they should have gone outside?

I got the seed parcel two days ago and it has some great chili seeds in there, thanks whoever put them in, and even though it is late I have put a couple of each in as if I only get a couple of fruits from each I can save seeds for next year.

I have tried again with aubs this year but am not holding my breath.

Mine are all tiny too, much smaller than at this time last year, I experimented by putting a couple of my cayenne under my craft daylight lamp and they are now romping away.

I think i'll end having to buy some pepper and aubergine plants this year, as they havent done well at all.
New to gardening & growing my own, its a very steep learning curve!

Oops, just looked in the propagator and I have seedlings of 'Whippets Tail', 'Apache', 'Marbles'. Tabasco', 'Hot Wax' & one where the writing has come off the stick.  I will hope to have at least one fruit off each to keep the seeds, if not then I will overwinter the plants.
