a very sick girlie
« on: May 11, 2012, 20:43 »
Please, if anyone can shed any light on this. One of my 1 year old Warrens, took a decline last week, she just started to fluff up, look very sad and hunch her body and shake her head all the time.  I took her to the vet who said she was eggbound, he gave her a oxytocin to induce the egg, which she did and he said in a couple of days she would be fine..... she wasn't, i phoned and said I think she has coccidiosis, (which i thought the first time) he then prepared Baycox Bovis which I have now given her two doses over two days.  She is still lethargic and sleepy, pecking at nothing.  Every day, every few hours I bring her in, give her some sweet corn, ham or tuna, a cherry tomato, and some sugar water which she drinks from a pippet but still she is the same.  She is in a home of her own within the run of the others.  Is there something I am missing, all my other chickens are fine.

Does she have a fever? Feel under her wing and compare with another hen.

How is she this morning? It's really worrying when they get sick.
Have you wormed them yet? Also suggest you treat for lice and check coop for red mite if not already done so.
Good luck
