New apple tree
« on: May 12, 2012, 14:35 »
Hello,

I got a dwarf apple tree in February, and stuck it in a pot in the back garden. It now has a few blossoms - should I remove them? The kids will be very upset if I do  :( as they are so excited about it, but I read that I shouldn't let it fruit for the first year.

The extra complication is that we want to move it to our new allotment.  Do I need to wait to the winter to do this? Presumably I then shouldn't let it fruit next year either? Frustrating!

TIA!

I think it wouldn't mind if you left one apple per sprog.  I should wait until the apple tree is asleep to move it (the technical word is dormant).      Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Thanks.  I guess the same applies to moving the gooseberry bush that I have in a pot? Last year I only got about 8 berries off it and the poor thing clearly wants open ground.

not an expert but if its in a pot think you can plant it any time, its bare rooted trees that should be moved when dormant
