You'll pick it up as you go on.

The to and fro action will cut weeds twice, whereas a standard hoe will only cut on the front stroke, and with the side blade you'll soon pick up the side swipe action for those previously hidden weeds.

I'm so impressed with mine I'm going to buy another so I can keep one at home, rather than carting it backwards and forwards to the plot.

Generally I don't get very enthusiastic on anything that doesn't run on gold juice,sorry petrol,but I really love my swoe.

With a bit of practice, you can also use it with the blade near vertical to the soil, and this does a lot of damage to deeper-rooted weeds.

Of course, make sure you're well away from the veg!
