peas and frost
« on: May 04, 2012, 19:53 »
I have a row of peas literally just peeking above the soil. Potential for frost tonight and tomorrow. Should I cover them or will they be ok?

I'm sure DD would say they'd be okay, but I'm never willing to take that chance with such young seedlings. I'd cover them for the night and any night there might be frost. It would be a shame to lose them now that they've sprouted.

Deffo stick some fleece or an old net curtain over them in case.

Nor me after the low temp they germinated in they'll be fine I've never lost peas to frost.

However just put all my toms, squash and chillis (not sure if i needed to bring the chillis in first time i've grown them) from the greenhouse in a bread basket and brought them inside they can sulk in the utility room for the next few days!

I'm sure DD would say they'd be okay,

And I'm sure you'd be right.

A few degrees for one night won't hurt.

They can be grown over winter after all.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

grand thanks lads.

lovely day here in the end - latest weather was sketchy on frost so I didn't bother covering as you all say.

have a good weekend.

By the way DD I put in billions of pea seeds as you suggest. :-)
