Gaps in my spuds.
« on: May 02, 2012, 18:48 »

Looking at my outdoor rows of potatoes, there seems to be hell of a lot of 'space'. :(

Like, one's popped through a gap of where say, 3/4/5 spuds should be then another space etc....

Should I have a little dig to see if there's anything below the surface/ridges, or wait a bit longer?

I see all the seed potatoes are gone out the shopsn now, and it's just got me worried!  :(

It's been cold for most of this month, I think they might be a bit later this year, have patience is my opinion.

When did you plant them Goldfinger? Have they been sitting in cold ground for a while? Ours were all planted on April 15th and started to show a couple or three days ago. They're now approaching a couple of inches in size. I'd be patient, as mumofstig says. :)

They're just like seeds - they don't all come through at once.

If I could put patience in a packet and sell it on eBay, I'd make a fortune!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They went in near the end of that good weather in March, sometimes I think I did right because of the weather during April, I would be planting them now because of it.  :(

So, maybe this colder weather so far, has knocked then a bit....

I think March must have thrown me then, that good weather made me think 'get stuff growing/planted' and by May/June your garden will be full.

Instead, April cooled everything down and slowed/stopped the growing process for now.

Should have known better with being further north.

Cover the ones showing back up just in case of frost.
then you will have none showing.
Mine look like mole hills at the moment as they poke their heads up i cover them back up.
still a chance of a frost i think it is forcast cold for saturday.
