So one egg left after 5 were empty...day 22 ...and there is the teeniest CRACK showing. I cannot believe how anxious I feel now. How long should this bit take?

That is great news.  I think it can take over 24 hours so you will still have to be patient.

I read an article today about a hen that laid eggs in a nest in some woods.  Some of her chicks had hatched so she left the nest but one chick hatched 4 days later.  The hen was only on the nest at night so they are more resilient than we think.  :)

Love this thread, it's highs and lows of drama being far better than an episode of Eastenders it's had me on the edge of my seat! And now the end is in sight, is that chick going to spring into the big wide world today or tonight or maybe tommorrow???? I can't wait hurry up next episode...I mean nature

I have got everything crossed for you, mama hen and chick :)

ANHBUC - I love your addition just goes to show it's survival of the fittest. Where did you find this article I'd love to read it please. x
