sweet corn seedlings advice please
« on: May 15, 2012, 17:05 »
Hi I have 6 surviving sweet corn seedlings  and one of the leaves on those has turned a bit yellow they are all about 5" tall and are kept in a grow house and covered at night I don't want to risk loosing anymore  :(
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

Could be either too cold or too wet.  Sweetcorn can sulk even if not subjected to frost - low temperatures can do it  :(

If they get too cold do they brown off at the top? Some of mine have browned off and shrivelled away :( I've moved them to the warmer greenhouse (not heated but a much more permanent structure that tends to be warmer). My minipop I've only lost a couple but the other corn I'm down to nine now. Any less and I don't know if it'll be worth putting them out.

Sweetcorn is one of the truly great sulkers - a frost will kill them but they will be increasingly unhappy from about 10C down to 0C - according to the forecast tonight an unheated greenhouse will almost certainly result in already struggling young seedlings deciding to give up - bring them into the house to give them a chance.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
