« on: April 09, 2012, 12:46 »
My 2 year old chicken is very listless and not eating. Been like that for 2 days now. She doesn't want to run around with her coup mates. her comb and wattle is still upright and red and her eyes are clean and bright. Not sure what's wrong but she's just not right!!! Please help! x

Has she been wormed recently with Flubenvet?  Is she laying?  Is she still drinking.

the usual suspects to check are:

Little visitors - internal or external:  Does she have worms or lice or redmite?  You need to Check her for lice or worms then check the coop for redmite by slipping a piece of white paper in the cracks and crevices of your coop to see if it comes out with red staining.  If there is red staining you need to treat the coop for redmite.

Soft egg - as Themagicaltoad and Kegs say she could have a soft or broken egg.  You need to check her vent and possibly sit her in a warm bath.

Crop - does her crop seem enlarged/squishy/grainy - she may have sour crop or impacted crop

Temperature - does she feel hot?  feel one of your healthy birds under a wing then use the same hand to feel under her wing to see if she feels hotter.

Moulting - is she losing feathers? Could she be moulting?

Broody - Could she be going broody?  Does she want to stay in the nesting box?  Does she fluff herself up and 'growl' at you when you try to pick her up or move her?

Good luck and keep us posted  :)

one of my hens was acting in a similar way,she was getting bullied quite a lot by one other hen,so I have seperated  the bully from the group, and after a couple of days poorly hen is looking fully recovered.
