Pot grown rasberries
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:51 »
Ive seen an 'offer' in a gardening mag and wondered just how much of an offer it is. I've just taken on a half plot (in addition to the half I already have), and want to dedicate the majority of this plot to fruit growing. The are already some raspberries but want to increase these and thought that as it is too late (or is it) for bare rooted canes, pot grown is an option. The offer is in 4cm pots and looks like one cane per pot. The cane has good leaves as far as I can tell and the offer is 6pots for £17.50.
What do you think?  :(

Also, can I dig in fresh(ish) manure where the raspberries are to go or should that be done well in advance of planting the canes /pots?

Any advice greatly received.  :D
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Have you no plot neighbours who can give you some?

They grow so prolific and most will be just throwing the new plants away as they grow

be patient  :) by next spring you will have enough of your own plants to make the extra rows, they spread so quickly

How do you get a raspberry cane in a 4cm pot?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Re your other question, about fresh(ish) manure, I would advise against this - let manure rot down properly before putting it in contact with plants.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
