I've prepared two 15 ft rows with stakes etc.  I have 10 bought autumn raspberry canes  (2 different varieties) and will be getting 10 summer ones from a neighbour. As raspberries grow by runners and seem to move their growing positions how should I plant my canes so that the different seasons (and different varieties) don't get mixed up eventually? I hope you understand what I mean - I do!

How far apart are the rows? If there's not enough room for a grass path between,

you could plant like this so that the only possible overlap is the bit in the middle.

Summer                        Autumn

There's probably 2.5 ft between the rows - enough for me to get through and pick the fruit from both sides (won't be grassing the gap - just mulching it).

They'll easily spread between the rows then, so probably best to do half and half.

thanks - I had thought to do it that way but how long will it be (in years) before they start to get really mixed up and do I then dig them up and replant in separate areas?

THe easy thing to remember with raspberries is to cut down the canes that fruited....THere should be plenty of bits left on them to see which did and didn't....
