Today I have received by post 12 cloves of Elephant Garlic which I plan to plant this weekend. Have I left it a bit too late? The catalogue says to plant Jan-Feb but I'm hoping this beautiful weather wont last long and we get another couple of frosts!

Although elephant garlic is actually part of the leek family, you should still plant it now rather than let it shrivel up waiting for another season. If you get only the one clove this year, you should be able to replant in the fall for next year. Sometimes you get lucky and it will still divide properly.

With normal garlic i know that if you plant it late (from now on), the plant may produce one small bulb but will not have divided into cloves. In theory you have one great big clove, which when planted at a better time (November for me) they should grow into very large  bulbs with very large cloves. Trying it with elephant garlic would be interesting///
