green fly/ white fly
« on: March 21, 2012, 22:11 »
its only mid march and im under attack!

last year was awfull for them i dont want it again.

whats the best way to get rid of them? i used soapy water last year but it just didnt cut it. and the garlic + onion spray i made just gave them bad breath   i managed to get them under control in the green house only by rounding up ladybirds from the plot and letting them lose in there. between them and their larve they ate them all but that doesnt help the rest of the plot...

many thanks CW

I'm going to zap them with a chemical one this year Cat; they decimated our kale and calbrese last year, and I don't grow stuff for too many insects to eat any more, there is a hierarchy round here...

They can have the stuff I don't eat, like flowers, hedging, weeds etc!

You can use Provado Ultimate Bug Killer - bayers own website http://www.bayergarden.co.uk/en/data/Products/p/Provado-Ultimate-Bug-Killer-Ready-to-Use.aspx

Might sound like a daft question, but do whitefly go for all kale?  After the whitefly totally ruining my curly kale last year, I am growing some in the greenhouse now.  I am also wanting to grow some Nero Di Toscana kale, but if it's going to get hammered outside, then I will find room in the greenhouse, is it just as likely as curly kale to get the whitefly problems?

My Black Tuscan kale has been APHID FREE!!!! However the flea beetles have had a little munch........not enough to worry.
Slugs don't like it either.....
