Lifting Maincrop Potatoes
« on: September 04, 2006, 12:43 »
My maincrop spuds are still in the ground as I’ve still got earlies left to eat, after this weekend’s heavy rain are they now at risk from rotting / slugs and therefore should I lift them ASAP or will they be alright for a little longer?

Any advice would be welcome.  :?

if the tops are dead or nearly dead theres nothing stoping you from lifting them, they say cut the top growth off and leave for a few days but i just dig em up.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish

I've grown an early maincrop which I finished digging up yesterday, left the tubers in the sunshine for a few hours to dry off then plonked them into paper sacks for dark storage in my garage.  If you have a late maincrop you may be safe to leave them in for the time being but if your soil is prone to slugs in damp conditions I would maybe err on the side of caution and dig some for storage now?...
