Hi its the kitten strenth but it hasnt been approved for chucks yet so would have to be given by a vet  As foe the fether plucking that could be down to a number of things, have your chucks got enough room to scratch about in

I registered my hens with the vet this week over the phone and asked about frontline for kittens but they said they would not supply this to me  ??? they told me to use a repellent that i understand is also used for horses (i forget the name of the product but wrote it down) suppose i will have to try to get frontline for kittens elsewhere its as a preventative really as i dont think there is a problem at the moment, its just a pain that vet wont advise me on this they said they had never heard of it being used for chickens and was not licensed for such use so would not prescribe, they said they dont generally treat livestock but with chicken keeping growing in popularity hopefully this will change, they did say they would see the girls in the event of an emergency however

anyone know where i can buy the frontline spray for kittens? having read the posts i understand a spray between the shoulder blades should be sufficient, gonna have a search see if i can get it online

have a good day

Claire :)

the spray is not just for kittens but for all cats and dogs, I give (on the advise of my vets) a short quick squirt between the shoulder blades after first parting the feathers.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks for the advice joyfull, i understand i need frontline spray for cats/dogs (sorry for some reason i thought it was perhaps a different strength for kittens and therefore more suitable but its dosage dependent on weight clearly) will see if i can get some online, your vet sounds much more helpful than mine

Regards

Claire  :)

Try on-line at Amazon. Much cheaper than buying from a vet or a local outlet.

being rural my vets also look after large poultry and turkey farms so yes I am very lucky. Although when I first get chickens they didn't - they were just cat/dog/small mammal vets so I used to go in armed with printed information and books etc. and they did some research whilst I was there to see if their diagnosis agreed with mine  :D.

Just to throw in a few bits if advice. Using a recycling bin or similar, half fill with sand and add a couple of scoops of Diatom Powder. The chickens will enjoy the bath while the red mites won't.
(Keep sand dry)
A good way of clearing the coop of RM is to buy a gas blow lamp and give all the cracks and crannies  a blast and fill any gaps or holes with a squeeze of silicone will stop the getting back in.
I'm not sure but could still eat the eggs after frontline?

redmites don't live on the chickens they just feed on them over night. Be careful with silicon, if it starts to lift chickens have been known to peck at it thinking it is a tasty worm.
There is no egg withdrawal with frontline  :)

You can buy the kitten strength frontline at pets at home or llyods chemists.  You have to supply your name and address and I never say its for my hens.... No perscription needed.
