Help needed identifying something!

I bought some rapberry canes and a tayberry from a local garden centre 3 or 4 weeks ago.
They are in pots and seem to be ok ,I went to plant them out today and noticed some small spheres in the compost they are in.The spheres are a yellow/greenish colour approx 2-3mm in diameter.When you squash them they pop.
Are they some kind of egg ?

They look like slow release plant food that nurseries use

It certainly is, perhaps not by the nursery but the maufacturer, glad to see someone getting something free  :lol:
