Our Head Hen, Arwen Evenstar, has began to moult!! And is she grumpy or what. Our usually noisy but sweet hen has turned into a stroppy teen, skulking and being silently defensive. She can always be found, as all you have to do is follow the trail of raggedy feathers!!!

are you sure she is just moulting and not broody? She certainly sounds broody to me. where is she losing her feathers and what age is she?

She's a ex-battery hen, so we are a bit unsure of her age. She hasn't been on the nest, and is eating and drinking normally. Already her feathers have began spouting back!!! 
I had wondered about broodiness, but she has perked up today

even ex batts have been known to go broody which I think is fantastic as it shows they having known little of a hens natural behaviour can still show their true colours 
moulting is stressful and does take it out of some hens so perhaps this may have been her problem. Glad she has perked up
