No feathers?
« on: February 12, 2012, 16:24 »
Hello all,

My chickens are coming on well now, apart from one who has no feathers on her front at all there are signs of blood there as well? Not sure what to do? They were all ex batts and had the since November any idea what to do? Also how do I go about making sure they dont get there crop blocked up as they seem to be eating hay/grass

Any advice helpful

Thanks

They are allowed to eat grass so long as it's not too long.  It's the long grass that can cause sour crop.

For the chicken with blood on her if you just spray on some purple gentian violet spray or dab it on with a child's paint brush this should cover it enough so the others leave the area alone (it's also an antiseptic and handy to keep in your poultry first aid kit!).  Hope that helps.

If you are giving them hay for food or bedding you ought to remove it as it is bad for them re spores and it is long and may cause blockages if eaten.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
