I keep collecting the seeds I eat from fruit and veg bought from the supermarket. I have sprouted some in a propagator and know that they are either melon, lemon, apple or grape as I planted these seeds all together but unsure which have sprouted. So far they seem to be doing alright, hopefully I can give them a good start off. So I wondered what has your luck been with seeds you've picked out of eaten or gone off fruit n veg?

Also does anyone have any tips for removing the jellyish sacks on tomato seeds? :blink:

You can play with this, if you like, however, it is quite unlikely, you get much in way of good produce out of them except for the tomatoes. Apple about 10-15 years to fruiting, even if it turns out good. The rest, just can't tell if they are going to perform anything or not, especially, on your location, depending where they came from and what they are.

They can be easily told apart from first true leaf stage, put on a photo, if you like.

I save tomato seed by just spreading the seed straight from the fruit onto a piece of kitchen paper so the seeds are about 1cm apart.  Fold the kitchen paper in two, dry on a windowsill, and store.

To sow I put the paper in a seed tray in March and water.  I only need 6 plants and get 99% germination, so I sow 12 seeds for luck.  I have 15 year old seed processed like this that still gives 50% germination

The fermenting and cleaning seeds malarkey only seems worthwhile if you need thousands of them to put in seed packets.
