It's looking good; you must have done a lot of work to get it looking that tidy already.

Re the fruit trees; they do look a bit close together - this might cause a problem as they grow larger, even if they are on dwarfing rootstock.  I'd maybe relocate every other one, but then it could just be the perspective of the shot.

Good luck and happy allotmenteering :D

3 feet is much too close i'm afraid. It would be good to know exactly what rootstock they are on, because 'dwarfing' could mean anything from a miniarette style apple tree (which they don't look like), up to  the more common M9 or even an M26 which is still quite large- needing more like 3 metres between trees.

The spread on cherry trees can be large as well, as there isn't really a dwarf variety widely available as yet, only semi dwarfing Gisela 5 and 6... they can be wider than they are tall...

Here's a good site that gives a rough guidelines as to apple rootstock and spacing
http://www.orangepippin.com/resources/general/apple-rootstocks

And another which covers a few other rootstocks and fruit
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=359

Nice work on the plot though... you should start a diary thread
