Sarpo Potatoes
« on: January 12, 2012, 22:17 »
Has anybody planted Sarpo potatoes and in particular Sarpo Mira. Are they really blight resistant?Do they give good yields on poor ground as advertised ?Do they cook and taste good? They sound too good to be true but I haven't heard them mentioned on this site .Have I?
I plan to plant 8-10 kg of maincrop spuds with half being Sante and half being Sarpo Mira if the reviews are good here but will go for something else if i'm not convinced.Thank you

I have no poor ground, so cannot comment.

They cook good and taste OK, not the best flavour but I would not boohoo it either.

We have discussed them all right before.

Just what I end up doing most years, both reliable, good croppers, multi-purpose. Sante is more flavour I like on our soil, but you never lose the crop of the other to anything. So far.

I'm trying these for the first time this year too - I've heard lots of good things about them, so fingers crossed.

I always grow Sarpo Mira and agree with everything god gobs has said about them.

If you care to do a forum search on them, you'll get three pages of results, so whilst you may not have heard them mentioned on this site, you've obviously not read the right threads!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I grew Sarpo Mira last year, I didn't get blight on them but they did get eaten by various wee beasties but as a potatoe they are invaluable (especially roasted - made big flatish potaotes - not good for bakers though -  :D) and I am going to order some more.  Also good for potatoe wedges.

Enjoy
