I've never been to a potato day, (our local nursery is more than adequate), but all the photos I've seen are of them selling loose spuds, as does our nursery.

Surely the question you should be asking  yourself, is how many do I need, not what weight?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Where I buy them from, I have to order by weight. Depending on the size of tuber (which in turn depends on the type and variety of potato), the number per Kg varies, a lot.

I appreciate you probably want to know how many plants you are going to end up with, so here are the figures from my purchases last year:

Sharpe's Express - 20.666/Kg
Lady Christl - 14/Kg
Ambo - 12/Kg

Hope this helps. :)

I not long ago checked on this, regarding bulk seed orders, that's why I said, what. But to quote Kings catalogue: "1kg equals 6-10 tubers".

Gavin knows it will vary by variety, as he mentioned. I may also add, it can very just by year and supplier, for if I'm not mistaken, a good seed potato size is defined as 3-5 oz or around there. (almost the double you can have)

I think Gavin is looking at prices here. The potato fairs can be one of the cheapest options at 10p or so a piece.

Yes, another variable making this a "how long is a piece of string" question. That's why I gave specific figures as a guide. It might help give a bigger picture, if more could provide this sort of specific information.

I was working / thinking out how many 1kg bags I would need to do my patch.. I just found a pic of the seed from last year so there are quite a few per bag by the looks of things...  maybe 14 or so... great price as it is £1.50 to £2 per bag...  Thanks for all the replies..
