I am head gardener OH says she want's more or less of next year.She does most of the cooking but I really enjoy cooking and make all of our bread ,cakes etc

I'm the gardener and the cook as well.  OH loves harvesting and eating and will help with big tasks, but day to day sowing and tending  ........  Nah

My motivation is the amazing taste difference in some crops to what you can buy and easy access to crops that are too expensive to buy.

My home veg beds and plot have seakale, asparagus, raspberries and other soft fruit for the luxury end of things and PSB, new potatoes, tomatoes, sweetcorn, french beans, herbs and salads for the taste sensation end. 

Having said that, as long as you can curb the desire to sow the whole packet and grow a sensible amount for the number eating off the plot, I would say any fresh home grown crop is a boon to the keen cook
