Peppers that are green
« on: August 21, 2006, 13:11 »
Hi

I've grown some really nice peppers in the greenhouse and now I have a question. The peppers are well shaped about the right size and green. The Head Cook in the Big House doesn't like green peppers so the question is: Will they ripen and turn red on the plant or do I take them off and let them go red ?.

I grew them years ago and have forgotten what I did back then.

They don't ripen off plant in my experience. Just leave them and hope the heat continues on long enough for them to ripen (usually later this month/early september in my past experience).
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

I've had them turn red  off the plant, I'm sure. but I think you're best leaving them on.

I think it depends on if they were about to turn or not. I find they go soft and wrinkly before turning colour and even so, they won't change completely over but maybe I just had wussy peppers that couldn't stand up to that treatment

My chillies are going soft and wrinkly before they are properly red, any ideas anyone?  Am I not watering them enough?  I must admit, I've not been watering them as much as I have my toms!!!!
