do not use Apple Cider Vinegar in galvanised drinkers as the acid will erode the galvanising  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Many thanks for all your replies which I have to say are reminding me that keeping chickens is not a simple task.

Regretable I have another few questions.
1.  Cider vineger.  What for and how much?
2.  I have a small door to let the chickens into the chicken house.  Should that be closed at night as we move into winter?
3.  Is it worth while putting a small light into the chicken house or even a heater?
4.  One of the birds is still laying its eggs on the floor.  Is there any chance it will learn to get up into the nestting boxes?

Hi BML,
(1) I've been waiting for the eggspurts to answer your questions, why not go to them,
type 'ACV' in 'search' there's a whole clutch of info there, along with Garlic etc.
after reading, you can decide(r)
I've been using the 25ml to 1000ml of water formula - (5 teaspoons) I have now acquired a plastic syringe, and bought the 'horsey' stuff, as it's the same and cheaper than the 'poultry' labelled cider.
as Joyfull mentioned the acv erodes galvanised containers so use a plastic or stainless steel one if you
want a more traditional look.
(2) See 'winter tips' Aunt Sally and security, foxes and ventilation.
(3) In my case no, we aren't commercial egg suppliers, God is good (and so too are feathers)
(4) There again seek in 'search' and ye shall find.  ::) if all fails make a nest on the floor  :)
