What's all this about problems with tomatoes this year?  :tongue2:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine are going great guns now they have started, all five varieties, inside and out.

Definitely worth the wait!

all the ones I picked that were blighted went mouldy, but the other plot is looking reasonably ok (one of the benifits of 2 half plots 1 mile apart. but yields havent been fantastic, the 9 plants in pots in the garden havent done great either.

I had to pick the rest of my green fruit because as soon as they started to go red they were getting eaten by snails.  I only had a fraction of the fruit I normally have but now they have been ripening on the kitchen window sill they are very tasty.

It seems that there's no end to the raggy old tom plants on Plot Growster...

Far for me to brag or be at all smug, because we lost loads of other stuff, but the toms just keep thundering on...

Mrs G reduces 6 (each) at a time for Spag bol etc, and there are several more each day, ripening in the pantry for use in a few days time.

I was down there this evening, and could see several pounds just waiting to come home.

And I'll place hand on heart, and put these little chaps' success down to plenty of liquid manure, (6X) which I've never done before. These were the runts of the plants, ready for the heap, but a sentimental Growster gave them a last chance...

But the b*****y carrots are flied to oblivion, and the peas are mildewed, and the leeks are beginning to bolt, we're covered in white fly, and, and, and...;0)

Ah Well!

I grew loads of varieties this year more than usual because I obtained a free greenhouse which we erected on the plot.  What a disaster.

The ones in the greenhouse produced a poor-fair crop and the outdoor ones produced a late crop that were decimated over one weekend by blight (the weekend we went away for).

I have a few green ones I am ripening, but otherwise we have only really had success with some of the cherries including the tumbling toms in hanging baskets which were very good.

oh dear....  (with a slightly smug  :tongue2:)
Greenhouse toms fine, plenty of nice fruits, grew 3 varieties in there....
Outdoor excellent too, which is unusual as my outdoor crop usually succumbs to blight but not a bit this year for some strange reason.....

Getting a good flavour is all down cultivation.  ie compost, feed, watering.  I have a VERY specific way and always get top notch results.  btw I grow to eat and not for show...

I had a very specific way of growing them this year, I threw them into some spare ground, no feeding and little water.  I have thrown a fleece over them now and am still picking Cherry and Plum Roma.
