Who's perfect anyway?

I would rather enjoy than be perfect.

I don't know any perfect gardeners, they all have their foibles.

I suppose if pushed to come up with my idea of a perfect gardener it would be that lovely man Harry Dodson.

I think to be perfect would infer someone who would have to be single-minded, perhaps selfish, in order to achieve perfection in the garden, in the same way that these top show growers are, to the exclusion of all else.  I'm thinking also of those guys who grow serried ranks of annuals in their front gardens and no slug or insect is allowed. Perfect but so inward looking they'd get on your wick  :D

My garden and allotment are productive but horribly weedy and undug, and I am forever behind. Still, I love it and am fully committed to veg growing. Not so bothered about general gardening though, so far from the complete gardener  :)

I consider myself an expert gardener. Not perfect though.
X always sounds like an unknown quantity and believe me Spurt sounds like a drip under pressure. Near enough a definition of me as an expert.
Do I always achieve my objectives? Yes, so far as feeding my family (and it is a wide one) with good quality produce and duck eggs and without using any chemical sprays etc.
Yes, so far as I enjoy it and love having the grand kids to help and to give them plants for school garden and stuff for the harvest festival etc.
Apparently the school will sell produce at harvest festival and all proceeds go to Africa - my granddaughter perhaps did not catch the details and apparently she has told her teacher that if they are so rubbish at gardening in Africa that they don't have enough to eat her granddad will go and sort it out.
Watch this space.

I might win awards but I do not consider myself either an expert or the perfect gardener. I just like things in straight rows and both my plots neat and tidy. This goes for my gardens at home too.
The perfect gardener for me, is someone who can not only grow vegetables but all types of plants. They too must also have a wide knowledge of growing techniques, taking cuttings etc, etc.
Me I'm still learning and live and learn by my mistakes. This forum has also helped me become a moderate novice rather than a total one!

Whenever I have strived for perfection I find my self disappointed and down at heart with my self so I do not strive for perfection.  I do my best and if then if that is not good enough then I know I've done what I could do.  This is reflected in my garden and my lottie - there are bits which look spectacularly good and other bits that look rough - its the nature of the beast.  As Nige2plots says I live and learn from my mistakes  - so by the time I'm about 80 I might be near perfect
