should i cover strawberries?
« on: October 19, 2011, 17:09 »
Simple question, do i need to cover my raised strawberry bed with fleece now the frosts are starting? The 3 plants that survived (i haven't had much luck) hardly produced any strawberries but they have now taken over the whole raised bed, so i want them to survive the winter in the hope i get a better crop next year. Thank you.

Theres no need to.  They will die back but will come again in the spring!  They are hardy little plants you know  ;)

Best not to as moisture would linger on the leaves and cause lots of fungus problems. As Min says, they're very hardy once they get going, and they're first going in spring with garlic and rhubarb.
