Help.... What is this plant in my lottie?
« on: October 17, 2011, 15:44 »
Hi All - I have now taken over my allotment and been given both halves to make a full lottie.   :D

I have a hedge looking bunch of small trees/shrubs growing at the side... I dont know what they are and wonder if they are a fruit tree of sorts.. Had some cutting down in the past as a lot of stumps and regrowth.

Can anyone help?

I'm thinking Dogwood (but I'm no expert on either shrubs or trees.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Hi J.. I Googled dogwood and one of the species pics look like it...

Is it used for anything on a plot other than a dividing hedge? I can't find a use for it..

You can weave baskets for your harvest, whilst waiting for them to grow! ;)

I believe the coloured stems are regarded as providing a (relatively) attractive feature in winter (probably look good against the snow! )

We had a plant like this as a hedge separating the the bottom of the garden from the veg plot, it had russet stems in the winter and provide shelter for wild birds, then OH 'trimmed' it >:(
