Freezing onion sets
« on: October 06, 2011, 18:03 »
I have some japanese onion sets and have planted out about half a bagful. I haven't got enough space for the remainder. Is it possible to freeze these, and would they then survive for next year's planting?

They would go rather soggy I think.  Any onion doesn't freeze very well, but definitely not for planting out. Sorry!

Bendipa - last year I had some sets left over with no ground to grow them in properly. I knew they would not keep - so I planted them at 1 inch spacings in both directions only taking up a few square foot. I ended up with very small onions about the size of shallots which I then pickled. They were great!
