Where do I get seeds etc. for winter planting?

Prob a dumb question, but want to grow winter carrots and possibly try beetroot as someone said you can grow that over the winter. Can I get these from the garden centre as normal? Do I grow from seed?
Also I heard you could grow lettuce in the greenhouse over the winter. Is there a certain type that can be done this way or any old lettuce?!

Autumn King carrot is the one to buy, should be avalable in Garden Centres, unless sold out by now.

this thread may give you a few ideas about salads

Is Wyevale a shop?!
Think I'm too late for the carrots but definitely going for the lettuce in the greenhouse!

Wyevale is a fairly widespread garden centre chain, but if you don't have one nearby or their sale is over, as Mumofstig says any garden centre should have seeds.

Nantes Frubund is the overwintering carrot variety that can be sown now to harvest in the spring. I have a packet to sow next week, but it could be a challenge preventing slugs eating the lot.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Wilkinsons are heavily discounting seeds at the moment.
