My Strawberries are fruiting in August!!!!
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:59 »
Hi All,

Like everyone else I have a bumper crop of lovely early strawberries which started in April and was over with just before Wimbledon started.  There are now lots of green fruit happily developing but should this be happening in August?  Have the plants got confused and think that it's spring again?  Has this happened to anyone else?  Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, I love strawberries!  I can't remember what type of strawberries they are because I've have some of them for 3 years now and some were plants from runners.  Lorraine

Some are early, some are mid, some are late season varieties, and of course some are so-called "perpetual", or "everbearers" which means they have more than one flush of fruit per year.

There's a couple of other strawberry threads being posted on at the same time as you have started this one; one thing that seems to have happened (at least this year) is that not every type of strawberry has read the script properly!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thanks both!  I only had a few fruit last year and even less the year before so I'm quite new to growing them so I'm pleased if I have overbearing plants.  I agree that they haven't read the script this year!
