Why do we even bother callin it summer??
« on: August 12, 2011, 19:59 »
 >:(

It's just a late spring and early autumn...

How disappointing.  This is only my 2nd year with an allotment and yesterday morning all I could do was lament the wind ravaged tomato plants in my back garden...  they're all still green and I have my doubts any will go red.  I can count on one hand the amount of times I've had to water down the plot and the local authorities were writing to warn us about the droubt coming ha ha what a joke.  Last year was much better.

Mustn't grumble though I suppose, we haven't done bad for veg considering and the weeds have been easier to control.

They do, even in hot summers, as they are actually not english at all:  they shed their leaves as the year turns  :D

Growing238, did you get the letter some months back about having to use the reservoir in Pontypool for our water etc??  Ha ha, how much did it cost in paper ink, envelopes and glue to print all that garbage I wonder!!

Starry - thank you for giving me some hope about the tomatoes.  Although they're green they're big and juicy looking so that's looking up!!

Blight hit my toms on Sept 8th last year but I stripped the plants and ended up with a good crop with window-sill ripening.
This year I planted 60 plants (trying to suss out which varieties I like) and I've only just started picking the Sungold.
It's a race to get the set trusses plumped up but I don't hold out much hope for the ones still flowering.
I nipped out the tops a couple of weeks back with only 4 trusses because the weather has been so bad.
I'm feeding once a week but I might increase that to swell the fruits.
