I've loads of clary sage seedlings to plant out which I thought were biennial but haveing read some books most of them stste that they are biennial or perennial.Does this mean?

a Some will flower on year but some might the next too
b They are perennial but will only flower in the second year
c Will flower after second year but the performance isn't as good
d All of the above
e None of the above

I think b might be the closest. Biennial, in my understanding, means it will flower in the second year, but only once. So I guess biennial or perennial would mean in the second year and then again after another two years... maybe.

clary sage, is a biennial or short-lived herbaceous perennial  just like hybrid foxgloves   

The may flower in the 2nd year and die, they may flower yearly for a few years and then die.
Some even flower soooo much they exhaust them selves and die  If the winter weather is bad they may die...........you get the picture.

In a nutshell..............they will flower next year, and if you're lucky they will last another year or 2
