Shivver Me Timbers-What's This Black Spot?
« on: August 08, 2011, 13:51 »
Noticed on the base of some tomatoes I am growing, a dark grey/black area. I am crosing my fingers this is not signifying blight :( If so is there any meaningful/effective action I can take, or is it a case of surrendering to nature?

if you refer to the bottom of the tomato fruit rather than the plant then the problem is probably blossom end rot caused by calcium deficiency due to irregular watering.  Best to ditch those fruits affected and take charge of the watering for the rest of the season which should prevent any more suffering the problem.

Or it could be botrytis or canker, which is why photos will help us to help with a diagnosis. :)
