Potatoes
« on: July 24, 2011, 13:30 »
I've had these potatoes hanging around because I had too many and too little time.  They're still growing sort of despite the neglect.  Could I plant them still for Christmas?

I don't know but we have too but I didn't do anything with them as they had shrivelled a bit

So It will be interesting to see the replies

I think they're charlottes (but there is a chance they could be maris pipers too).

They're still alive, so if you've got the space I reckon you might as well give them a chance.

I think that their life cycle time clock will still be running and when planted they will grow and produce small tops and mini sized tubers. You may even find tiny tubers on these before you plant them.

The potatoes that are offered for producing new potatoes in the Autumn have been held in a chiller which slows their time clock and keeps them dormant.

We tried Maris Piper (main) last year with absolutely no success! This year I kept back some Lady Christl (first early) from the spring planting and I'm currently chitting them for planting quite soon. :)
