Leylandi Mulch
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:55 »
Hi everyone

Like many others I too am new to growing things in the ground.  I want some advice about using mulched leylandi foliage on the soil as ground cover.  I an area of soil that I am not ready to use at present so i have cleared it but want to try to prevent it getting covered in weekds again.  i have been offered as much shredded/mulched leylandi as I want as ground cover.  Will this stop weeks growing again and will it do any harm to the soil??

Thanks

M

Welcome to the Forum, I'll move this over to GYO, where you'llget more answers.

AS a mulch it will stop weeds, but isn't good for soil to grow veg in, as it makes the soil to acid with the resin from the leaves/wood. It lasts quite a long while for areas used as paths though.
