hi everyone,having grown giant sunflowers this summer,today i harvested the seeds.
how can i tell if they're edible?
does it depend on which type of sunflower?
 the seed cases are white not black striped like you see in the shop

My seed packet says the seeds can be eaten from the flower heads, but not the seed packet. Mine aren't really setting seed though, they are just completely black husks on there.
Have you still got the packet to check?

thanx,will try and find the seed packet,if i can eat them i think the majority will go to the wild life anyway !

I don't think you'll have a problem eating the sunflower seeds you've grown, other than the time & energy wasted getting them out of the husk. Just think how long it would take to crack a handfull!!

No doubt they tell you not to eat the seeds from the packet as they have been treated in some manner.

Wild life is the way to go, they have more patience & persistence than us humans.
