Dead Grower 12 weeks
« on: July 13, 2011, 13:10 »
Yesterday we had our hens and the growers out in the main garden yesterday, but one was very stand offish and would not leave the covered part of the run.

Has really not mixed well with the others for two weeks. so we went to put her in the quarantine area but she was dead looks like she fell asleep on the perch head under wing no blood loss no foam from the mouth nothing at all to give a hint what happend.

at 9pm hubby closed the pophole for the night opend the coop door made sure all was fine then came in we talked about the little blue maran and went to move her but was dead by 11pm.

Does anyone have a clue?

she ate and drank and defecate as normal not sick as far as you could tell.

feed: Growers brand Garvo
water
treats veg,grass and bugs

without an autopsy you cannot be sure, however it could be her heart or even another internal organ not working right  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

you beat me to it Joy!  Just like the one I've been talking about on my post.  Fine one minute, then dead a few hours later!

It's never easy Al, no matter how many chickens you have!

I had one do that the othre day.

Very nice looking birchen Marans.  Perfectly fine one day, dead the next morning with no signs of why.

Yo just have to chalk it up to "one of theose things" no matter how frustrating/upsetting it is, unfortunately

Same here. A perfectly healthy looking Welsummer under a year old was rushing about to get her corn treat at 5pm and by 9pm  she was stone dead with her head under the hen house. Not a mark on her.

You can't autopsy every one, but the good external condition and lack of symptoms points to some sudden internal failure.
